Phasmophobia adaptation won’t “just be a ghost hunting film”

Hit ghost hunting game, Phasmophobia, is also getting a film adaptation, but art director Corey J. Dixon assures fans it won’t “just be a ghost hunting film.” The studio is working closely with Blumhouse Productions to make sure it comes out just right.

In an IGN interview, Dixon clarified that the movie will be a “Phasmophobia film” and not just a generic ghost hunting flick. He notes that Kinetic Games has a solid partnership with Blumhouse and that it will be a film fans want to watch.

“We’ve got a really good partnership with Blumhouse. It’s brilliant. It will be a Phasmophobia film, it won’t just be a ghost hunting film — we’re going to make sure it’s a film that fans want to watch, and we’re going to work with them really closely. They’re really willing to work with us, and, obviously, we want to work with them. So yeah, we’ve got a really good partnership, and I think fans are going to love it when it comes.”

With a perspective focus on existing fans, though, we do hope it can draw in an audience beyond the Phasmophobia crowd as fixating on one group of people can be a huge double-edged sword. Blumhouse is also working on Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the sequel to its shoddily received 2023 adaptation.

At this point, there’s still not much known about the Phasmophobia film other than it’s in the works; no story, director, writer, or castings.
