To make things easier for you, here are 10 beginner tips that you’ll definitely want to know before diving into Borderlands 4.

10 Understand New Vault Hunters

The Borderlands franchise has always revolved around its Vault Hunters, and Borderlands 4 brings us four new faces. Rafa is a rogue soldier who specializes in dishing out heavy damage.

Vex steps into the supernatural territory with summoning companies and unleashing energy attacks. Amon is the tank who has a bunch of defensive and offensive abilities. Lastly, we have Harlow, the strategist who excels in supporting her team. Mastering every single aspect of these characters is the key to success.

9 Unlock Digirunner As Soon As Possible

One aspect that might catch newcomers off guard in the game is its open-world design. After the tutorial, you’ll be dropped into the world of Kairos. While there is a main story quest available, you’ll also be bombarded with tons of missions, hidden puzzles, and even boss fights.

Taking on these might make you travel halfway across the map, and then coming back, which is time-consuming. Our advice? Stick to the story until you unlock Digirunner, which is a summonable vehicle that makes exploring the world much easier.

8 Explore the World with Echo-4

By the time you gain access to the Digirunner, you’ll also meet Echo-4, who is your robot companion. Don’t think it’s useless, as it’s one of the best tools to explore Kairos.

It can ping locations to help you navigate, mark nearby checkpoints for quick revives, and even help in capturing Order Silos and Safehouses. Relying on this bot will make your adventure much smoother in Borderlands 4.

7 Use Order Silos & Safe Houses

Why bother with Order Silos and Safehouse? Well, they act as extra fast travel points beyond the main hibs. Order Silos are easy to access, clear any enemy in the arena, activate the command console inside, and a massive tether will shoot up in the sky, allowing you to grapple up and glide.

Safehouses can take a bit more effort as you need to explore the nearby area for a data disk. Once you find it, Echo-4 can use it to override the system. Now, you’ll have another fast travel location unlocked.

6 Claim Quest Rewards Instantly

Questing in Borderlands 4 works quite differently compared to previous games. No matter if it’s a main mission, side quest, or a contract, completing one won’t automatically give you the reward.

You will have to open your inventory and claim it through the rewards interface. These rewards are locked to the level you were when you finished the quest. If you forget to claim them, it could mean losing out on a valuable upgrade that could’ve made your game much easier.

5 Replay Missions to Farm Gear

In Borderlands 4, you’ll have the opportunity to revisit nearly every main story mission through the missions tab. If you replay these quests, you’ll be able to earn most of the rewards again.

Depending on how far you are in the game and the available reward pool, this can be a great method to arm specific gear that is otherwise hard to obtain. You can even replay any specific boss fight in the game to farm resources.

4 Look Out For Collectibles

Borderlands 4 features 340 collectibles scattered throughout Kairos, and you genuinely don’t want to ignore them. They grant you something called ‘SDU’, which is a special currency that can be used to upgrade your ammo reserves, expand backpack space, increase bank storage, or boost the loot machine’s capacity. Keep an eye out for Vault Symbols as well. They are glowing orange marks hidden around major points of interest that give you SDU.

3 Enemies Can Have Different Health Pools

Enemy health bars in the game come with different colours, and each one signals a different strength and weakness against certain damage types. Knowing how to match your loadout to these health pools can make the fights much easier, or tougher if you don’t go prepared. Here are the three categories ,

  • Red (Flesh) , Neutral to kinetic, corrosive, and radiation damage. Resistant to shock and cryo, but highly weak to incendiary damage.
  • Blue (Shield) , Neutral to kinetic damage. Resistant to incendiary and corrosive but weak to cryo and radiation, and very weak to shock damage.
  • Yellow (Armor) , Neutral to kinetic, incendiary, and cryonic. Resistant to shock and radiation but weak to corrosive damage.

2 New Weapon Manufacturers

Guns have always been the heart and soul of the Borderlands experience, and the new game expands the arsenal with weapons from eight different manufacturers. Five of these are returning from previous entries, but we have three brand-new to the franchise ,

  • Daedalus , These guns are simple and versatile. They’re easy to handle, quick to fire, and can use multiple ammo types.
  • Ripper , These guns start slow but quickly become fully automatic as long as you keep the trigger pressed. They come in the form of snipers to SMGs.
  • Order , Straight from the arsenal of the Timekeeper, these advanced weapons focus on precision. They have a special charge feature that delivers devastating bursts of damage.

1 Take Advantage of the Licensed Parts System

Every weapon in Borderlands 4 is built using different components, like the barrel, magazine, grip, and sight. Some of these parts can be licensed from other manufacturers, which add their unique traits to the gun.

As you level up, more licensed parts will be available, and higher-rarity weapons can be slapped with multiple components. Take advantage of this system and hunt down the right parts to make an overpowered weapon.
