Everyone who has ever gamed or talked about gaming knows what Valorant is today. The free-to-play shooter is one of the most played games over the last few years. Valorant, first launched in 2020 for PC, has seen a monumental rise in players and even netted a few awards.
Late in 2024, Valorant officially launched on consoles, albeit in a limited number of regions. However, despite being unavailable to many, Riot Games’ decision to launch a console version of Valorant was a solid one. Valorant saw relative success within the console scene and it looks like Riot Games can’t wait to try out other attractive avenues.
Valorant’s launch on consoles was a pivotal moment for Riot Games, as the potential of the game grew even bigger. The success of Valorant’s console launch has opened many doors for Riot Games now. A mobile release being in the cards is not too surprising considering the success of other mobile shooters, most notably Activision’s Call of Duty: Mobile.
As seen with games like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG mobile, among many others, a mobile variant can really boost any game’s player base quite significantly. Both these games were originally launched on PC. A Valorant game on mobiles could see a significant increase in its already massive base of players. Riot Games may just have a gem in its hands. The game’s Alpha version already looks incredibly polished when compared to other mobile shooters.
Adapting Valorant for mobile devices will definitely come with its fair share of challenges. For instance, Valorant requires the use of precise aiming and the character-specific abilities may be difficult to implement in a mobile version of the game. However, there are suggestions that the game may be implementing features that aren’t on PC and Console which raises concerns for fans.
There are growing concerns that Valorant is slowly being neglected on PC and a mobile version could completely turn this for the worse. Since a mobile variant is on the cards, Valorant fans have a reason to be worried. Mobile games are usually the most profitable and many studios have diverted resources to sustain that large player base.
Whether Valorant’s mobile variant becomes a bigger priority for Riot Games, remains to be seen. Yet one thing is certain, when Valorant mobile comes out its player base will see a massive boom in numbers.
