An unofficial patch for FromSoftware’s Bloodborne has been slapped with a DMCA takedown after years of its existence. The patch was released in early 2021.
Lance McDonald took to Twitter (via IGN) to explain what happened to this unofficial 60 FPS patch. Apparently, Sony reached out, demanding he scrub the links he’s posted on the internet related to said patch.
Of course, this has caused a whirlwind of questions as to why it’s now that Sony is stepping in, after all, the offending content has been around since 2021 and there’s no way Sony has just heard of it. Frankly, we’re right there with the majority of pipedreamers who believe this DMCA takedown is because Sony is working on remastering or remaking the grim beloved PS4-era Soulsborne title.
Even FromSoft boss Hidetaka Miyazaki has stood by gamers wanting a modern release of this beloved title. Sony is the one that owns the rights, so it has to be it to push something forward, but as it stands, it feels like the Japanese giant is just kind of letting fans hang in limbo.
