Two children die after being hit by car in Pitsea, Essex

A man and a woman have been arrested after two children were killed when they were hit in a hit-and-run crash in Essex.

The collision happened in Walthams Place in Pitsea, near Basildon, at about 18:25 GMT.

Essex Police said the car failed to stop at the scene.

A man and a woman have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

The force said emergency services were sent to the scene, but they could not save the children.

Police appealed for information, particularly CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage.
