2024 was a huge year for gaming. We had very high highs with the likes of Black Myth: Wukong and Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and some very low lows with the failures of titles like Concord and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. And with the release of some new data, we know the top 10 best-selling games in the US.
The most-sold game of 2024 in the US is none other than Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. But how did it beat out other titles like Helldivers 2 and Elden Ring despite only coming out at the end of the year? Either way, it’s the best-selling CoD game in a while, even with all its issues and just shows how beloved the franchise is.
According to data from Circana, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the best-selling game in the U.S. for 2024. This is incredibly expensive considering it only came out around the end of October. The game also maintained its top spot during the month of December. One question that’s interesting to think about is whether its release on Xbox Game Pass is part of what made it this successful.
Outside of Black Ops 6, there are multiple sports games in the top 10 including EA Sports College Football 25, which also became the best-selling sports game in U.S. history. College Football 25 is a return to the franchise that we fans have waited a long time for and it delivers. The other sports titles include NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 25, EA Sports FC 25, and EA Sports MVP Bundle.

On a more surprising note, Elden Ring finished in ninth place for the year. If you consider the fact that the game came out back in 2022, its relevance is still very impressive. Of course, it owes part of its success in 2024 to the massively successful Shadow of The Erdtree DLC that came out in June.
Another surprise in the charts is that Helldivers 2 only landed on 3rd. For a game that was easily the most popular and successful live service title throughout 2024, it’s definitely a surprise that it wasn’t at least second. The game even won Best Multiplayer Game and Best Ongoing Game at The Game Awards 2024.
The last notable entry in the top 10 is Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, which landed in fourth place, surprised many by outperforming traditional sports giants like NBA 2K25 and Madden NFL 25. If you know anything about the industry, you know how anticipated and celebrated this game was when it came out. A very deserving spot indeed.
The success of Black Ops 6 is also a bit surprising considering the number of problems and controversies the game has had since release. The game was, and still is riddled with cheaters and Activision’s anti-cheat has done little to help. Then, there are allegations of the use of AI for some of the game’s voice work and loading screen art.
In the end, we can just chalk up the game’s success to the enduring and beloved appeal of the Call of Duty franchise. 2025 is bringing a whole new roster of games to the table, and there will most definitely be a new king by the time this year ends. Which game of 2025 do you think will take the crown?
