PROVIDENCE – A pair of storms will bring wintry precipitation to the region Thursday and again Saturday into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service has issued a winter weather advisory from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, saying “hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.”
The advisory covers all of Rhode Island, except for Block Island, as well as portions of northern Connecticut, all of Massachusetts east of the Berkshires, except for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
Expect mixed precipitation with “total snow and sleet accumulations between 1 and 4 inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze,” the weather service says.
When will the snow start?
Snow should arrive between 6 and 10 a.m. Thursday before changing to ice and rain in the afternoon, according to the weather service.
“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the weather service says.
Friday looks dry but windy, according to the weather service.
What’s in store for the weekend?
“The active weather pattern continues with another storm Saturday night into early Sunday bringing a wide variety of wintry precipitation,” the weather service says.
The weekend storm will move fast and “may bring accumulating snow and some ice Saturday night,” the weather service says. It could switch to rain in some areas.
“We also will need to watch the potential storm by late Tuesday and Wednesday of next week,” the weather service says.
