It’s been almost two years since the beloved Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swung to theaters. At this time, fans are curious about any updates regarding what’s happening with the next one.
Decider stated during an interview with Jharrel Jerome, the actor for the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse film, that lines were not recorded yet for the web-slinging animated movie.
The 27-year-old actor was asked about whether he’s in production on the third entry in the Spider-Verse film franchise right now in which Jerome replied:
“No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things.”
Spoiler warning up ahead, the actor had a small part in the ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse but will make a major appearance in the aforementioned third film as the main villain.
Jerome portrayed the Earth-42 version of Miles G. Morales at the second film’s finale. In this version, he isn’t Spider-Man like the original Miles but rather the Prowler.
It’s not surprising that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is taking its time as production for the second film was reportedly unsustainable, which resulted in animators overworking themselves. They were pushed to work more than 11 hours a day in a full week for over a year based on a report from Vulture.
Hopefully, this doesn’t apply for the next film. The animators deserve a lot of breaks, even if it takes years to complete it. Remember, you can’t rush art and an unrushed product tends to yield better results anyways.
