Remember the good old days of toys in your McDonald’s Happy Meal? I mean sure you can argue whether or not it primed us for a life of subsistence on fast food, but I remember back in the day you’d get some genuinely fun stuff with them. And it seems Pokémon have found a way to bring that back, in part, as Pokémon TCG Pocket partners with McDonald’s!
How does it work? Well, bad news because it’s not a paper code or anything like that. Instead, it’s a whole rigmarole about downloading the McDonald’s app, ordering their latest promotional meal via said app, and then receiving a code you can exchange for rewards.
Still, if you’re willing to go through that whole process you’ll be rewarded with 24 Pack Hourglasses and 12 Wonder Hourglasses – not bad for the price of a burger I suppose.
For the fans
I think my only beef (pun intended) with this whole thing is the fact that it kind of misses out on the simplicity of promotional campaigns. How hard would it have been to just print out a code that you can give to someone on a slip of paper? But I suppose everything nowadays needs to be tied into digital, so ho-hum.
In any case, I think they’re being very optimistic about making this a Happy Meal, because if there’s anything I know from seeing those videos of Pokémon fanatics (or scalpers, as some might call them) raiding wholesalers for packs of cards, it’s that most fans will care very little for their mini pack of McNuggers.
