Battlestate Games (BSG) positioned it as potentially the last wipe before the game’s full release, slated for sometime after August. However, the update introduced drastic changes aimed at creating a more punishing experience, and the backlash from players has been significant. Many are reportedly abandoning the game, prompting a swift response from the developers.
The “hardcore” nature of the wipe stemmed from alterations to core game mechanics. While the intention was to test these changes before the anticipated launch, the initial reception was overwhelmingly negative, with many long-time players struggling to adapt.
The initial uproar centered around several key changes:
- Removal of initial in-game tasks: This stripped away a crucial sense of progression and direction, leaving many players feeling aimless.
- Increased Scav cooldown timer: This made it harder for players to recover from raids, creating a snowball effect of poverty for those struggling.

The increased difficulty and economic constraints create a vastly different dynamic, forcing players to adapt or fall behind.
The core problem stems from a perceived lack of communication. As one player pointed out on a Facebook post, “If BSG had bothered to ask us about removing quests beforehand, this whole mess could have been avoided.” This public awareness is crucial.
