Marvel Rivals’ Recursive Destruction is a fun and frantic way to enjoy the hero shooter. Season 1 brings new maps on board and adds the iconic streets of New York. Midtown is our target, and it’s where we need to take the subway if we want to trigger Recursive Destruction.
I’m unsure if Marvel Rivals is a F2P shooter, or secretly a Sherlock Holmes game. I’m supposed to be wiping out enemy players using my heroic abilities, but Rivals constantly wants me to activate my expert sleuthing skills to complete investigations. Midnight Features is a newcomer for Season 1 and asks you to perform wild actions such as triggering Spider-Man’s Spider Tracer ability 10 times.
One objective without an alternate objective is the Trigger Recursive Destruction three times task. Thankfully, we’ve cracked the case so you can put the magnifying glass away.
Head into a game on Midtown—ideally a game of Convoy—and press right on the D-Pad on PlayStation and Xbox, or hit the B key on PC to reveal red Recursive Destruction buildings. Do enough damage to them and they shapeshift back to their original form.
Check out this complete guide showing you what to do in Rivals:
- Boot up Marvel Rivals.
- Find a quick match and wait for the Midtown map—or pick an LTM featuring Midtown.
- Wait until you get to the second round of Convoy, for instance.
- Use Chrono Vision during the match to highlight Recursive Destruction-eligible buildings.
- Press right on either the PlayStation or Xbox controller d-pad to use Chrono Vision, or B on PC.
- Applicable buildings are highlighted in red.
- Cause enough damage to the object or building, and it eventually rebuilds itself to dynamically change the map’s construction.
- Do this three times to tick off the “Who Needs Damage Control?” objective.
Recursive Destruction essentially rewinds time and undoes the damage done to a building or object.
Midtown’s broken Iron Man heap is the perfect example. If you do enough damage to the broken pile of rubble and decay, the Recursive Destruction process triggers. The crumbling mess rewinds itself and completely renovates and fixes the building in seconds—making for an entirely new battlefield.
Speaking of which, it’s not quite Battlefield 4 levels of adaptability, but it’s still a cool addition, and there are several areas like this.
First-time completion of “Who Needs Damage Control?” rewards you with 100 Chrono Tokens in Marvel Rivals.
Chrono Tokens can be used to claim Battle Pass rewards and fill out your wardrobe with cosmetics. If you complete the mission, any subsequent instances of “Triggering Recursive Destruction Three Times” change the level, but give no further rewards.
Did you even know Chrono Vision was a feature in Marvel Rivals? Do you hope to see more level manipulation akin to Battlefield 4’s Levolution system?
Marvel Rivals continues to expand. It’s getting a comic book series, and streamer Shroud wants to start a Marvel Rivals Esports organization he loves the game that much.
