Figuring out how to defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion can be quite difficult. This optional boss takes the crown for being one of the hardest optional boss fights in the expansion and requires more than patience and a great build to defeat.
Metyr, Mother of Fingers is a massive creature composed of huge fingers that can be a pain to deal with. If you have trouble fighting against this overpowered boss, look no further since this guide will have everything you need to succeed.
Metyr, Mother of Fingers is found in the Finger Ruins of Miyr. The Land of Shadow is vast and full of optional side quests and fighting Metyr is one side quest players do not want to miss.
Before fighting Metyr, Mother of Fingers, players must take a few steps in the Count Ymir questline that can be found at Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Players are then tasked to locate three Finger Ruins of the Realm of Shadow before they can go further into the questline.
The Finger Ruins of Dheo can be found north of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr through the Hinterlands while going south of the cathedral will lead players to the location of the Finger Ruins of Rhia through the Cerulean Coast.
The last finger, the Finger Ruins of Miyr, can be found underneath the cathedral, and from there the player will be sent to the arena where Metyr, Mother of Fingers is waiting.
Any decent build can beat this optional boss; however, players should consider having gear with stronger defense. Acquiring the Impenetrable Thorns is crucial after the initial Terra Magica attack and getting the right weapons equipped before entering is vital.
Also, upgrade the summons to have a stronger defense against the boss’ attacks since they will take most of the punishment.
Tip
Elden Ring players can request the aid of a summon for this fight and should select them carefully since this fight has two phases.
Items that are equipped with the Impenetrable Thorns for sorcery with Comet Azur and Terra Magica will prove effective. These items can help deal significant damage and start the fight by removing a large chunk of the boss’ health bar.
- Lusat’s Glintstone Staff
- Golden Order Seal
- Lazuli Glintstone Crown
- Dancer’s Dress
- Dancer’s Bracer
- Dancer’s Trousers
Fortunately, this boss is not as aggressive as other optional bosses like the Royal Revenant, who will immediately strike whenever players enter the arena. Players can summon their allies and cast Terra Magica on the ground from a safe distance, then blast the boss with an impressive ray of Comet Azur, removing a huge chunk of the health right off the bat.

The boss will retaliate with a few minor attacks and Elden Ring players can count on their trusty summons to take over and distract the boss. While the boss is occupied with the summon, players can use Impenetrable Thorns to finish the job.
Metyr, Mother of Fingers has a handful of ranged and melee attacks, and this method will keep you safe from long-range damage. However, it is worth knowing how to counter these attacks if the boss manages to close the gap.
The boss can shoot a few lasers from its fingers which are easy to avoid by rolling or running. Similar to its swipe and slam attacks, players can telegraph when it will smash giving them enough time to book it.
After defeating Metyr, Mother of Fingers, players will be rewarded with the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers. This item can be used to create newer items like a Colossal Weapon or a Staff.
