GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — A multi-business building in Grand Haven is a total loss following a fire that broke out Friday night, authorities say.
Just after 9 p.m., fire crews with the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety were sent to the area of Fulton Street and S 3rd Street for a two-story commercial building fire.
Responding crews found smoke coming through the roof and quickly worked to try to extinguish the flames. GHDPS said that due to the water supply and weather, there was an increase in requests for area agencies to respond.
The owner of the building told News 8 that she found out from a friend who rushed into her house just down the street to alert her. She said she arrived just in time to watch the roof crumble.
“Well, there’s a lot of history. I have 19 tenants in there and (the) majority of them are women-owned businesses. Just a bunch of people helping the community with what they do. So it’s just heartbreaking,” Karen Fredricks, building owner, said.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire. GHDPS said no one was hurt.
It’s unclear what led up to the fire.
The fire remains under investigation.
