LANSING — A mix of snow and freezing rain was expected Wednesday in the Lansing area, and driving could become hazardous by Wednesday night, forecasters said.
“We anticipate that the Thursday morning drive could be kind of icy (in Lansing),” said Mark Sekelsky, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.
Southern lower Michigan is likely to see some ice accumulation from a major winter storm expected to hit the Great Lakes region on Wednesday. The weather service said areas “near and south” of Interstate 96 were most likely to see ice accumulations, with Lansing having a 50% chance of one-tenth of an inch or more of ice.

Kalamazoo and Jackson had a greater chance of significant icing, the agency said
Sekelsky said the Lansing area could see up to a quarter-inch of snow during the day Wednesday and “maybe a few hundredths” of an inch of freezing rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning as warmer air tries to push its way in.
The Lansing area will see highs in the high 20s on Wednesday, highs in the 30s on Thursday and around 30 degrees for the rest of the week, the weather service said.
Another storm system could move in over the weekend, with a chance of snow showers and freezing rain on Saturday, forecasters said.
