An El Paso police officer shot a man who allegedly tried to run over the officer during a road rage incident on the West Side, authorities said.
The incident started about 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, on Sunland Park Drive and Mesa Street, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Detective Judy Oviedo said.
The driver, who has only been identified as a 33-year-old man, allegedly tried to runover an El Paso police officer. The officer fired and shot the man, Oviedo said.
The driver then fled in his vehicle heading downhill on Sunland Park Drive. The man was soon arrested on Sunland Park Drive before reaching Cromo Drive, Oviedo said.

The man was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Detectives could be seen looking at a dark gray pickup that was sandwiched between two patrol cars on the westbound lanes of Sunland Park Drive, though police spokesperson did not immediately confirm if that was the vehicle involved in the road rage.
Sunland Park between South Mesa Hills Drive to Mesa Street will likely remain closed until Tuesday morning as police continue to investigate the incident, Oviedo said.
There was traffic jam in the area surrounding The Shoppes of Solana, formerly Sunland Park Mall, because of the closure of Sunland Park Drive. Vehicles were backed up onto the Sunland Park exit of Interstate 10 West.
As standard protocol, the shooting involving an officer is under investigation by the Texas Rangers, El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit and Internal Affairs, Oviedo said.
