- Dordogne is out now on the iOS App Store
- This painterly adventure takes you on a trip through the past
- Explore your childhood adventures and memories of your late mother
It seems that this week has been one for nostalgia, what with the millennial throwback A Perfect Day coming soon to mobile, and now the release of the nostalgic French watercolour narrative adventure Dordogne! It’s out now on the iOS App Store and promises gorgeous visuals and a heartfelt story. What’s it all about? Let’s dig in and find out.
Dordogne sees you playing as the young girl Mimi in the summer as her adult self recollects the past and the times she had with her late grandmother. As you might expect, it’s a somewhat melancholy story, but it’s tempered with gorgeous watercolour backgrounds that have been hand-painted to evoke the vibrant French countryside.
You’ll uncover fond childhood memories and uncover lost family secrets as you collect various mementoes to create your own custom journal of the events in-game. Dordogne promises a heartwarming narrative that takes a slightly more positive view of nostalgia than something like A Perfect Day and looks at the healing nature of these memories.
Bienvenue
The painterly visuals of Dordogne are indeed its biggest selling point, and one of the things we initially singled out for this release, and there’s no doubt that it really evokes that sensation of being out on a lovely summer’s day. At the same time, it’s also one of those releases that’s difficult to describe with its time-bending approach to narrative, and I reckon that just how much you enjoy Dordogne will depend on how well you can relate to the overall story.
But if you think that Dordogne might be either a bit too heavy or too twee, for you why not take a gander at our list of the top 12 best narrative adventure games on mobile? Everything from globe-trotting adventures to sombre storylines is available to try!
