In the ever-expanding universe of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead has been keeping players on their toes with a steady stream of new content and updates. From the Viper Commandos to the Freedom’s Flame and the recently introduced Chemical Agents, each themed Warbond has brought its own unique flavor to the game.
But as much as we appreciate the variety, there’s one thing that’s been missing from the Helldivers 2 arsenal: a true sci-fi classic. And what better way to scratch that itch than with a weapon straight out of the Star Wars universe?
Picture this: the “Galactic Legends” Warbond, a collection of weapons and gear in Helldivers 2 inspired by the most iconic sci-fi franchise of all time. And at the center of it all, the holy grail of space-age weaponry: the Lightsaber.
Now, we know what you’re thinking. “But Helldivers is a shooter! How would a lightsaber even work?” And you’re right, it might not be the most practical weapon for taking down hordes of bugs and bots. But hear us out.
Imagine the satisfaction of slicing through a swarm of Terminids with a glowing blade of pure energy. Or deflecting incoming fire back at those Automatons with a flick of the wrist. Sure, it might not be the most efficient way to clear a nest or outpost, but damn if it wouldn’t be the most fun!
And why stop at lightsabers? The “Galactic Legends” Warbond could also include a variety of blaster weapons, from the classic DL-44 heavy blaster pistol to the devastating E-11 blaster rifle. Because let’s be real, what’s a Star Wars-inspired arsenal without a few good blasters?
Now, some of you veteran Helldivers might be thinking, “Wait a minute, didn’t the original game already have a Saber?” And you’d be absolutely right.
The Saber in Helldivers, albeit underutilized, was a powerful melee weapon that allowed players to slice and dice their way through enemy hordes with ease. It was a fan favorite for its satisfying combat and its ability to make players feel like true space ninjas.
But let’s not forget, Helldivers 2 is a massive upgrade from its predecessor in every sense. With the switch to a third-person perspective, vastly improved graphics, and a host of new gameplay mechanics, the sequel has taken the series to new heights.
So why not reimagine the Saber for this new era of Helldivers? With the game’s enhanced visuals and expanded customization options, a new and improved Saber could be a game-changer. Imagine being able to unleash devastating combos with a flurry of strikes (think Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2), or even unlock special abilities that allow you to throw your blade like a boomerang.
Plus, with the recent surge in player numbers thanks to the latest Patch 1.001.100, there’s never been a better time for Arrowhead to introduce (or at least, announce) something truly special to the game. A new melee weapon category would be the perfect way to keep players engaged and excited for what’s to come.
And while we’re on the subject of iconic weapons, let’s not forget about the prospect of a certain WW1 attachment for rifles, as we discussed in a previous article. Because sometimes, the best way to take down a bug is with a good old-fashioned charge and stab.
So what do you say, Arrowhead? It’s time to give the people what they want. Quit teasing us with themed Warbonds and give us the sci-fi weapons we’ve been dreaming of. The community is ready and waiting, lightsabers in hand.
