A traveller who landed at Perth Airport with a phone allegedly filled with child abuse material is to face court on Friday.
The WA Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team charged the 26-year-old with four offences after Australian Border Force officers uncovered the mobile phone, which allegedly contained abuse material, when he flew in from Denpasar in Bali on April 8.
The matter was referred to officers from WA Police and the Australian Federal Police, before the 26-year-old was linked to alleged online activity and charged.
He is facing four offences relating to accessing, transmitting, possessing and causing the transmission of the material.
ABF aviation operations Supt Vesna Gavranich said investigators used “a range of intelligence, targeting and profile techniques” to target those accessing illegal material.
AFP Det-Insp. Andrea Coleman said investigators “work tirelessly to identify offenders to ensure they are prosecuted”.
Anyone who has information about anyone involved in child abuse should contact police in triple-0.
