Let’s be honest, publisher and developer Bethesda has quite a significant reputation in the gaming industry. A lot of the studio’s success can be attributed to its boss, Todd Howard, who has played a massive role in Bethesda’s ambitious games over the decade.
However, due to the recent failures of the Skyrim maker, many have questioned Howard’s leadership. However, one of the ex-Bethesda developers praised Howard for his contribution and constant efforts, and even gamers agree that he’s still the perfect man to lead the company.
The ex-Bethesda developer we’re talking about is none other than Jonah Lobe. He’s best known for his work on Skyrim’s monsters, even those Dragon Priests, which every gamer absolutely despises.
In an interview with Kiwi Talkz, the former developer opened up about his experience at Bethesda. According to him, Todd Howard’s leadership played a crucial role in the studio’s rise to the top as he provided a healthy work atmosphere, which is a rare sign in today’s toxic workplace environments.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen ex-developers of the studio praising Howard for his constant efforts. Even Bruce Nesmith has acknowledged Bethesda’s boss and stated that if he ever left the studio, there would be a big hole to fill, and we believe that might never be filled.
Considering all the layoffs and terrible leadership decisions gamers are used to seeing, they’re happy to see how Howard works with his team of developers. Although the last couple of games under haven’t been a blockbuster, players are praying to see that changing soon.

Let’s hope Howard and his team can finally put together another masterpiece with Elder Scrolls 6 and redeem the studio’s reputation because the gaming industry wouldn’t be anything without Bethesda.
While many ex-developers have praised Howard for his leadership, some of them are still critical of the studio’s game development strategies.
Howard and his team have been using some form of the infamous Creation Engine since the release of Skyrim. For Starfield, the studio upgraded to Creation Engine 2, but that didn’t satisfy gamers as it had various issues and bugs that have been a part of Bethesda’s catalog of titles over decades now.
While talking on Kiwi Talkz, ex-Bethesda artist Nate Purkeypile opened up about the topic and stated that the studio should make a switch to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.
Dumping the Creation Engine might seem like a good idea, but let’s not forget that Unreal Engine has its own issues. Even though developers can craft games with incredible graphics, some titles using the engine, such as Silent Hill 2, have faced big performance problems.
All Howard needs to do is bring some major overhauls to its Creation Engine or scrap it for something new. Simply switching to Unreal Engine 5 isn’t the solution.
With that said, do you think Howard is still the perfect man to lead the studio that gave us hits such as Skyrim and Fallout? Let us know in the comments below.
