The Last Of Us Season 2 Introduces Another Brand-New Character Unique To The Show

The Last of Us Season 2 will finally arrive in April and bring more big changes to the story. Tommy’s (Gabriel Luna) and Maria’s (Rutina Wesley) family dynamic will be altered as the two now have a child together. The first season of the show, based on one of the most acclaimed games of this generation, definitely changed some aspects of the narrative to spread out the season–and one of the best episodes of television that year.

Max recently released new photos for the upcoming season that seemingly don’t give any of the story away–Joel (Pedro Pascal) sitting, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) riding their horses through town, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and her WLF cronies, and Tommy, Maria, and their son together.

In one of Season 1’s quieter moments, Tommy tells Joel that he’s going to be a dad and Maria is already a few months along. Tommy tells Joel he thinks he’ll be a good dad, with Joel responding, “Guess we’ll find out.” The brothers get into an argument about how life didn’t stop for Tommy just because Joel felt like he had no reason to keep going.

However, in the game, Tommy and Maria don’t have any children, but adding a son to Tommy’s story arc could significantly change if Tommy goes on to Seattle to look for Abby. Leaving a wife and a child could also explain why he and Maria end things later on.

“I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game. You never know what we’re gonna do,” showrunner Craig Mazin said in 2023. “But I will say that it is the adventure, the journey is the point. There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay. As long as they’re purposeful, they’re not there to just simply shock. We are not interested in creating social media fear. We just want to tell the story the way we think it should be told.”

To coincide with the premiere of Season 2, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is finally heading to PC April 3.
