- Mr Box is a newly-released endless runner on iOS
- Take on multiple zones and obstacles as you race along an isometric track
- Use power-ups and abilities to evade obstacles and battle enemies
When it comes to the heroes of the endless runner genre we have bold explorers, stylish delinquents and even jetpack-borne felons. But what if your preference is something a little less bold? Like today’s subject, the block-headed, put-upon but still brave, Mr Box?
I feel it’d do you a disservice to explain what an endless runner is, after all, if you’re reading this site you’ve probably played dozens. So, what does Mr Box bring to the table? Well, a distinct (and strange) twist in that rather than a simple 2D plane the action in Mr Box takes place on an isometric course.
It certainly makes Mr Box stand out a bit, but at a glance, the trailer and gameplay do give me a weird sense of vertigo. At the same time,e there are all the features you’d expect from an endless runner, complete with different zones, power-ups to avoid certain obstacles and more.
Box with god
I don’t want to come down too harsh on Mr Box, even with its aggravatingly quirky descriptions, as this is clearly a release made with a decent spoonful of love. It’s also interesting to see the use of the “tap & release” controls for a character who doesn’t actually fly, and it certainly fits the isometric perspective.
Do I think Mr Box is a new epoch in the annals of gaming? Not necessarily, but it’s definitely a lot more original than some of the releases we see hit the app store, so with that being said it’s likely worth a gander if you’re a fan of the genre.
