- Tetris Block Party is a new take on the classic falling block puzzler
- Enjoy a multiplayer-focused, more casual experience with Tetris Block Party
- Daily Challenges, offline mode, PvP and more
When it comes to gaming hits I think few really compare to Tetris. One of the most popular releases of all time based purely on the addictive mechanics of its falling blocks, Tetris has been ported to a myriad of platforms (including mobile!). But now a new take on the iconic falling block puzzler seeks to reinvent itself with Tetris Block Party!
Out now in soft launch for Brazil, India, Mexico and the Philippines, Tetris Block Party very much seems to be an attempt to drag the format kicking and screaming into the mid-2020s. Gone are the falling blocks in favour of single drag and drop on a static board, and a much greater emphasis on multiplayer.
That means the perennial favourites of leaderboards, assaulting your friend’s bases and even taking them on in PvP Tetris Block Duels. An offline mode and daily challenges look sure to offer plenty to play in the meantime even if you’re all by your lonesome.
Blocked out
I think I speak for a few people when I say that I have mixed feelings about Tetris Block Party. Although I hesitate to judge before getting my hands on it, I feel as if the format of Tetris is not necessarily one that needs reinventing nor that can really be translated to the modern multiplayer-focused gaming format.
The addition of Facebook linking and social playing indicates that this is very much hoping to grab a vast audience, in the same way, hits like Monopoly Go and (of course) Candy Crush Saga have. And the anthropomorphized blocks, colourful cartoony graphics and generally softer gameplay all around look to confirm that.
