The latest endeavor from Hello Games, the creator of No Man’s Sky, is called Light No Fire. promises to be an open-world sandbox game that is “the size of Earth” and emphasizes survival, exploration, and adventure. It sounds like a pretty ambitious multiplayer experience that aims to recreate the richness of an RPG while also capturing a sense of freedom.
Now, this comes all after a long-update saga of No Man’s Sky. This game came with a lot of potential but went on to fail miserably. Still, Hello Games never lost hope and kept pushing updates and new content for free and in the end, made it one of the best survival and exploration titles.
We have often heard the term “redemption arc” in the gaming world and this term has been redefined by Cyberpunk 2077. However, if there’s any title that truly does justice to this term, then it has to be No Man’s Sky. One of the genre’s most anticipated games, the indie gem was first released in 2016. But with each new teaser, the disturbing reality that an infinite universe ripe with an infinite stream of planets was no longer unavoidable became clear.
Beyond the uncompromising scope, it was never clear what we would do in the game itself, even after it was released in 2016. Until the last minute, the dull reality of hopping from planet to planet in search of resources to continue traveling to different systems was hidden because even Hello Games later realized it wasn’t particularly interesting.
Nevertheless, No Man’s Sky eventually succeeded because Hello Games demonstrated to us that perseverance is the secret to success. 38 major updates have been released for the game since 2016, and this most recent one may be the last.
On July 17, 2024, the game received the Worlds Part 1 update, which included new flora and fauna in addition to a comprehensive visual makeover. The game has reached a whole new level thanks to this update, which also marks the end of Hello Games’ quest to revive No Man’s Sky to its highest quality. After this, the journey of Light No Fire started.
It seems Light No Fire will be repeating the antiques done by No Man’s Sky. However, that’s looking very far from the reality right now. Despite No Man’s Sky getting a flurry of updates, we have yet to get any solid update about Light No Fire in a while, with just a single announcement trailer in 2023, nothing else. However, by the looks of this game, fans are pretty hopeful about the game.
Even if Light No Fire is universally proclaimed as trash, I’m buying it at launch for full price.

Light No Fire is creating a single planet to scale in a fantasy setting, while No Man’s Sky procedurally created an entire universe. The goal of Hello Games is to build a multiplayer Earth that can theoretically house the 7.8 billion people that currently call our planet home.
Its mountains are taller and more formidable, its navigable space is just as vast and varied, and its oceans are as deep and dark as our own. You’ve played in open worlds before, but nothing compares to this one—you and your friends will be able to explore, discover, and build upon hundreds of millions of square miles of space.
The final game will have some RPG tentpoles, from character creation to a sprawling fantasy story, even though the reveal focuses on the size of the generated planet. Similar to No Man’s Sky, you can design your own avatar in a variety of species, such as humans, rabbits, foxes, badgers, bears, wolves, and otters. You can also anticipate meeting characters in small outposts who will give you quests.
Now, only time will tell which trump cards Hello Games has hidden in its sleeves regarding Light No Fire.
